The DWM landfill is licensed to accept the following waste:

  • Inert waste.
This includes items that are not chemically reactive and will not decompose

  • Clean fill, building materials and clean waste.
Businesses with a requirement for regular waste disposal via commercial size vehicles (trucks), only.

  • Putrescible waste.
Waste that will decompose such as items in general household and commercial rubbish including food waste.

  • Controlled Waste.
This waste type may be accepted by DWM but will often require prior Environment Protection Authority (EPA) approval and transport must be via an EPA approved carrier. Customers wishing to dispose of Controlled Waste must first complete a Controlled Waste Application Form.
Controlled Waste will not be accepted at the landfill without a DWM issued “Controlled Waste Delivery Advice (CWDA)”.

To determine if your waste is a Controlled Waste, please refer to the EPA.

DWM can accept commercial disposal of asbestos, for domestic disposals please contact your local waste transfer station. For more information about the safe handling of asbestos, visit WorkSafe Tasmania.

Under our Environment Protection Notice (EPN) issued by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA), the DWM landfill cannot accept certain types of waste.  Generally, we are unable to accept waste classed Level 3 and above by the EPA.

However, for large or ongoing projects, we encourage you to contact our office direct 6424 7344 to discuss. DWM has a proven track record working with the EPA to deliver sustainable waste solutions for our customers.
